Many people, and even most car enthusiasts, never knew exactly what it was to ‘drift’ until they saw it on the film Tokyo Drift or heard about it through word of mouth. Whether it is good or bad, drift car racing may have never been the same after the release of the film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. This film exposes drifting to great numbers of people. The first Fast and the Furious film made the car culture of Japan much more popular with teens and young adults and the film Tokyo Drift will do just the same, just by much more.
There are many other films that put more focus on drifting to make it so popular:
1. Initial D. 1998 TV series where a young delivery boy becomes a legend in drift racing.
2. Initial D: Extra Stage. 2001 film that follows a team from Usui and their hard times with racers and romance.
3. Mischief 3000. 2002 video documentary
4. The Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya’s Drift Bible. 2003 video documentary and guide to drifting.
5. Formula D. 2005 TV series shows the competitive side of drift racing.
6. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. 2006 film where one man is running from jail time to Tokyo where he gets wrapped up in the drift racing found underground.
7. Drift: The Sideways Craze. 2007 TV documentary that follows the nation’s tops drifters.
8. Fine Tuned. 2007 TV series where mechanics surprising fix up cars for the owners.
9. Tokyo Mater. 2008 film where a tow brings Mater to Tokyo where he is challenged to a race of drifting against a gang leader and his group of ninjas.
